Fight for Schools Files announced today in an email that it filed more than 1200 petitions in Loudoun County Circuit Court to remove Loudoun County School Board Chair Brenda Sheridan from her office appointment. The filed petition contained 1,859 signatures from Sterling, VA residents asking the circuit court to remove Brenda Sheridan “on the basis of neglect of duty, misuse of office, and incompetence in the performance of her duties.” Fight For School’s petition cited Virginia Code section 24.2-233 which states that “upon petition, a circuit court may remove from office any elected officer or officer who has been appointed to fill an elective office, residing within the jurisdiction of the court … [f]or neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties when that neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties has a material adverse effect upon the conduct of the office.” Ian Prior, Fight for Schools Executive Director, provided the following statement upon filing: “As Chairwoman, Brenda Sheridan has overseen and personally contributed to a complete breakdown in trust between the community and the Loudoun County School Board. From violating open meetings law to ignoring the school board’s code of conduct to neglecting to keep our children safe, all for her activist causes, Sheridan has been nothing short of a disaster as the so-called leader of Loudoun County Public Schools.” Fight For Schools states that they are “a non-partisan political action committee focused on electing common sense candidates that commit to policies that support equal opportunity, tolerance, meritocracy and achievement.” Read the entire petition here |
